Hyderabad: Raising concern over the misuse of spy cameras that threaten women not only of their privacy but also their right to live, Heaven Homes Society, a non-governmental organisation launched a nationwide campaign titled ‘Anti Red Eye India’ here on Sunday.

Pledging to support the victims who fell prey to illegal spy cameras placed in public places or within their own houses, the organisation supported by Tollywood film actress Samantha Akkineni and senior artiste Shahnoor Sameer demanded the government strengthen laws pertaining to cyber harassment through spy cameras, by ruling them under non-bailable crimes.

Shedding light that spy cameras were available at rates as low as Rs 300 and could be easily attached to even the minutest object like shampoo bottles and toothbrushes, the organisation urged policymakers to legislate a framework wherein licenses and age bars are to be specified for purchasing a spy camera. Suggesting commercial spaces and hostels conduct a routine check for spy cameras on their premises, the campaign also aims to grab the attention of government authorities, politicians and judiciary departments towards the social evil which has already taken lives of innocent women across the country yet remains largely unnoticed.

" It is unfortunate that we have an Arms Act in our country which makes it compulsory for a gun user to apply for a license but a spy camera which is an equivalent to a weapon is free to be handled by any person even without an identity", expresses G Varalakshmi, Director of Heaven Homes Society.

As part of the awareness drive, a demonstration of spy camera misuse had been illustrated to the audience to give them a clearer insight. Bhuvaneshwari, Vice President of City Marketing and Radha Rajeshwari, a senior advocate participated in the event and launched the IVRS number 8099259925 that would help in seeking support of civilians to submit their plea directly to the Central government.
