Hyderabad: Osmania University Vice Chancellor S Ramachandram asked the alumni to participate in the future developmental activities of the university.

Addressing the Centenary Global Alumni Meet-2017 here on Sunday, he said that by reactivating the university alumni association, in particular, that of the Osmania College of Engineering had brought about 20,000 strong alumni of the university reconnected to their alma mater.

He praised the university alumni for extending their cooperation and helping the university in applying for the Centre for Excellence.

And the alumni of the engineering college for playing a key role in getting the university an A-plus category of NAAC accreditation.

That apart, the former students were pitching in for the construction of a new building for the Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE).

Also, the Alumni Association had proposed to establish a Centre of Excellence. For the same, “efforts were on to allocate 5 acres of land and a decision would be taken soon,” he added. One alumnus had also come forward to establish an endowment for research activities at the university, he said.

Terming the alumni as the stakeholders in achieving the vision of the university, Ramachandram urged the alumni to further extend their cooperation by active participation like visiting the campus, taking lecturers to inspire students, conducting short-term courses, giving new ideas, participating in the infrastructure development or establishing endowments. Earlier, Principal of the University Engineering College, Prof S Sameen Fatima asked the alumni to make use of the Global Initiative of Academic Networks (GIAN) and VAJRA (Visiting Advanced Joint Research) Faculty Scheme initiated by the Union Minister of Human Resources Development (UMoHRD). Through, these schemes, the alumni could participate in the distinguished lecture series organised by the college benefiting the students.

Similarly, the alumni could also take an initiative to host research at the college, she said. OU Registrar, Prof Ch Gopal Reddy stressed on improving the infrastructure as per the current needs and demands for different courses to be taught at the university.

Other speakers including Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Prof. P Laxminarayana and Chairman of the Centenary Global Alumni Meet-2017, P Ram Reddy gave details of the illustrious alumni of the college who were occupying top positions in different fields of science and technology in various parts of the globe.
