Hyderabad : Backward Classes Welfare Association national president and MLA R. Krishnaiah met President of India Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Nilayam on Tuesday and requested him to utilise his powers for introduction of BC Bill in the Parliament.

Krishnaiah told the President that BCs constitute nearly 56% of total population in the country. However, their representation in education, jobs and politics is highly negligible. He said BCs were highly backward in all spheres of life. He said BCs should be given 50% reservation in all law making bodies and a Bill should be passed in the Parliament for the same.

He also demanded that the BC quota in Panchayat Raj institutions should be increased from present 34% to 50%. Likewise, BCs should be given 56% reservation instead of 27% in Central institutions. Further, he said a separate ministry for BC Welfare should be constituted at the Centre.
