Forget ISC postponement, focus on academics: OU VC
Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Ramachandram has appealed to the students, faculty and staff of university to remain focused on academics and put behind the postponement of the 105th Indian Science Congress.
Hyderabad: Osmania University Vice Chancellor Prof. S. Ramachandram has appealed to the students, faculty and staff of university to remain focused on academics and put behind the postponement of the 105th Indian Science Congress.
In a statement, the Vice Chancellor said that the University has been preparing to conduct the Science Congress with utmost sincerity and had galvanized the entire teaching and non teaching community to host the event. “Preparations were in an advanced stage and we could have conducted the event without any glitches,” he said.
Thanking the staff and the students for their unstinted support to the University administration in its hundred year sojourn and for the conduct of the Congress, the Vice Chancellor said its postponement, undoubtedly, has come as a setback and a disappointment. The University traversed a long way and has been ranked on the top both nationally and internationally and has weathered such setbacks, he said.
"The University’s march towards academic reforms and excellence in research will continue with greater determination and will not be deterred by such uneventful happenings. In the larger interest of academics, research and public good, the University will make efforts to work with like minded organizations and move ahead," he said..
In the wake of the postponement of the 105th Indian Science Congress, Prof. Ramachandram has also appealed to the media, not to believe rumours and exercise restraint while covering news about the University. The Vice Chancellor, stated that unconfirmed messages about the University are being circulated which is causing confusion among the students and also denting its image. Students, who are active in social media, tend to believe such unconfirmed information fraying their tempers.
He appealed to administrators of various Whatsapp groups to check the credibility of the sources to ascertain the veracity of the information before posting the same. At times, a few channels have picked up such false information changing the discourse on the University in the media which is causing irreparable damage to this 100 year old institution.
He urged all the stake holders of the university to refrain from believing and circulating the false information.
