Hyderabad: The increase in liquor prices, which came into effect on Wednesday, would only benefit the distilleries, according to Telangana Wine Dealers Association said here on Wednesday. Telangana State Beverage Corporation Limited (TSBCL) purchase liquor from the distilleries and sell it to licences liquor outlets, bars and restaurants.
Telangana wines Dealers Association has been demanding that margin in the liquor sales be increase, but the government rejected it. Liquor price hike would help to the distilleries make more profit, the Association alleged.
Association leader B Venkateswara Rao said the retail liquor outlet dealers were demanding increase in the margin from the present 15 to 20 per cent on IMFL (Indian Made Foreign Liquor) brands and 20 to 25 per cent on premium brands, besides beer products. He claimed that maintenance cost of running business had steeply increased.
He objected to the condition imposed by the Excise Department that the old stock should be sold at old MRP only. He wondered why the government had objected the merchants to sell the old stocks at new prices. The Association leader said liquor prices went up by 5 to 12 per cent in four slabs depending on the liquor brand. Premium brand prices went up by 5 per cent and other brands between 7and 12 per cent.
