A noted Urdu short story writer, Prof Mohammed Baig Ehsas has been chosen for the Sahitya Akademi Award this year.

The former department head of Urdu at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) receives the award for his short story ‘Dukhma’.

Prof. Baig Ehsas submitted his doctoral thesis on Krishan Chander work and life in 1984 and even chaired the Department of Urdu in Osmania University as well.

Names of 24 poets and authors have been announced by India’s national academy of letters Sahitya Academy for the prestigious Sahitya Akademi awards in 24 different Indian Languages.

Works including seven novels, five poetries, five short stories, five literary criticisms, one play and one essay have been recognised for the award which will be conferred during a ceremony to be held on February 12, 2018.
