Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has accused TRS Government of violating the human rights to suppress people's voice against its anti-democratic policies.

Speaking after hoisting the Congress party's flag on the occasion of 133rd Formation Day at Gandhi Bhavan on Thursday, the TPCC President alleged that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao's Government has unleashed 'Police Raj' in Telangana State. He said Dalits and Girijans were being humiliated repeatedly by the TRS Government. "The brutal torture of Dalits in Nerella in illegal police custody is a glaring example of human rights violation. Similarly,

Tribal farmers of Khammam were implicated in false cases, chained and hand-cuffed when they asked for remunerative price for their chilli crop. Further, serious cases with 20 Sections were booked against MRPS president Krishna Madiga and other activists although they tried to hold protest in a democratic manner to press for the demand of SC categorisation which was unanimously approved by Legislative Assembly," he said.

Alleging that the TRS Government was functioning in an undemocratic manner, Uttam Kumar Reddy called upon the Congress cadre to work hard and stay united to win next elections. He expressed confidence that the Congress party, under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, would come to power both in Delhi and Hyderabad in 2019 elections.

Earlier, Uttam Kumar Reddy recalled the contribution of Congress party in freedom struggle and transforming into a powerful nation. Formed on December 28, 1885, the Congress party fought the war of independence under the stalwarts like Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhai Patel, Netaji Subhash Chandrabose and Moulana Azad. Post-independence, Congress Governments at the Centre brought overall development in the country. Right from ensuring food security to industrialisation, the Congress regimes took India to the level of exploration of Mars.

The TPCC chief said it was Congress party which led and supported the statehood cause and Sonia Gandhi turned the 60-year-old dream of Telangana State into a reality. However, he said that the present KCR regime, by violating human rights, was giving a feeling that people were not living in a democratic country, but they are still under the British Raj. He exhorted the party workers to strengthen the organisation so as to defeat the TRS in next elections.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also congratulated the Congress Seva Dal on its 94th Formation Day today.

The function was attended by TPCC Working President Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy, Leader of Opposition in Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir, ex-PCC president Ponnala Lakshmaiah, ex-MP M. Anjan Kumar Yadav and other leaders.

Grand celebrations of Congress party's Formation Day were also organised in all other districts of Telangana State.
