Hyderabad: State Road Transport Authority (RTA) collected a revenue of Rs 2,189.62 crore during the year as against the target of Rs 2,245.9 crore with a deficit of Rs 56.28 crore. While the Rangareddy, Hyderabad, Medchal top the list with highest tax collections, the newly formed districts Nagarkurnool and others are low in terms of revenues. According to Transport Department sources, the revenues in 21 out of 31 districts in the State were over Rs 10 crore during the year.

According to officials, in terms of the quarterly tax, the department fixed a target of Rs 329.45 crore, but could generate Rs 295.5 crore, which shows a deficit of Rs 34.40 crore. Similarly, in terms of Life Tax, the department fixed a target of Rs 1,519.56 crore and received Rs 1494.55 crore with a deficit of Rs 25 crore.

The department exceeded the target in terms of the fee, thanks to the enhancement of the rates by the Centre. The department could generate Rs 209.61 crore in the form of fee as against the target of Rs 199 crore. Similarly, the department exceeded the target in service charges. The target fixed was Rs 52.6 crore and the revenue collected was Rs 52.94 crore. The target in detection charges was Rs 145 crore and the collection was Rs 137 crore.

Under five zones in RTA Hyderabad, the department collected a revenue of Rs 560.18 crore. The zone-wise revenues include- Central Zone Rs 266.9 crore, North Zone Rs 107.52 crore, East Zone Rs 65.47 crore, South Zone Rs 55.87 crore, West Zone Rs 55.78 crore, State Transport Authority (STA) Hyderabad Rs 8.55 crore. The revenues in the Rangareddy district include- the RTA Rangareddy Rs 252.62 crore, RTA Ibrahimpatnam Rs154.29 crore, Unit office Shadnagar Rs 82.3 crore, RTA Medchal Rs 143.6 crore, RTA Uppal Rs 155.92 crore and Unit office Kukatpally Rs 78.26 crore.

Sources said the lack of supervision by the higher officials had led to the decrease in the revenues. “There is no full-time commissioner in the department for over a year. The principal secretary of the department is given the additional charge of commissioner. When there is no official in the Commissionerate to monitor day to day affairs, how can we expect the lower level officials to work,” said a Union leader.
