A 12-year-old boy met a tragic fate on the New Year’s Day when a coconut tree crashed to the ground killing him on the spot.

The victim, Manikanta had gone to offer prayers at the Bala Rajarajeswara Swamy temple at Uploor in Nizamabad district.

After having the Darshan of the deity, Manikanta was going around the sanctum sanctorum as part of the Pradakshinam ritual when the tree hit him in the early hours of Monday.

While the onlookers nearby made attempts to rescue him, but the efforts turned out to be futile.

The boy is learned to be a student of Class VIII of the KKR High Schools in Hyderabad.

Temple priests revealed that the root system of the coconut tree was totally damaged by the pest and the temple management could not notice it.

The police visited the temple and registered a case.
