Suryapet: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy felt that the State government has been striving to make agriculture a profitable sector in the State. The Minister on Tuesday toured Suryapet constituency and laid foundation stone for construction of road from Suryapet market yard to Khammam road and interacted with farmers at Gajula Molkapuram of Penpahad mandal.

Addressing the farmers, the Minister said government has been working seriously to address the irrigation issues and constructing several irrigation projects across the State for the welfare of farmers.

“The united Andhra Pradesh leaders not only neglected this region, but envisaged irrigation projects in such places where there is no water availability,” he mocked, adding that after formation of Telangana, the issues of farmers have been getting addressed in phase wise.

“The State government is redesigning the projects in order to provide water to every acre and make the agriculture a profitable sector,” he added. Stating that except Congress leaders, majority States and agriculture scientists were appreciating free power to farming sector, Jagadish said farmers of the State knew the importance of round-the-clock power.

He slammed Congress leaders for criticising the government’s initiative. “State government’s move to provide financial aid of Rs 4,000 per acre per season to farmers is a historical step and no State in the country is implementing such an innovative programme,” he said, adding that the Farmer Coordination Committees would address the issues of farmers besides helping them in securing MSP for their produce.

After laying stone for the construction of four-lane road from market yard to Khammam road, the Minister distributed clothes to Hamalis of the market yard besides distributing a cheque for Rs 2 lakh to kin of a Hamali, who died recently. Market Committee Chairman Y Venkateshwarlu, Municipal Chairperson Pravallika, District Library Chairman Srinivas Goud, officials concerned and farmers attended the programme.
