Begumpet: The 8th edition of the Hyderabad Literary Festival to be held between January 26 & 28 at Hyderabad Public School, Begumpet , will pay tributes to Girija Devi, Shashi Kapoor, Tom Alter and Gauri Lankesh. Blending literature, art, music and films, at HLF, the lives of these famous personalities will be celebrated. Entry is free and open to all.

Vidya Rao, a performer of thumri-dadra and ghazal, will celebrate the life of Girija Devi in her stage talk, "A Tribute to Appaji". Vidushi Girija Devi was the undisputed queen of thumri gayaki. Affectionately known as ‘Appaji’, her extraordinary musical accomplishments were matched only by her generosity when it came to teaching those who came to her for taleem.

Sanjana Kapoor, the co-founder of "Junoon", will reminisce her father's (and mother's) journey in her plenary session at the festival.

Film lovers will get a unique opportunity to watch films that pay tribute to Tom Alter (Life Flows on). A film on the elderly—tracing the lives of three dementia patients, this film focuses on bringing awareness about an issue that affects 44 million people in India and yet is very little is known in terms of its onset and care. It is an endearing film and a tribute to the legendary actor.

Pushpamala N, who is known as “the most entertaining artist-iconoclast of contemporary Indian art”, will be honouring the life of Gauri Lankesh through her performative art at HLF 2018.

A poem written by Mamta Sagar (Kannada poet, playwright, and translator)will be presented as a tribute to Gauri Lankesh. Musicians, Bindhu Malini Narayanaswamy (singer, composer, musician, music director, actor, and graphic designer) and Vasu Dixit (composer, musician and filmmaker) will jam with performance poet Mamta Sagar in this exclusive session. Poetry and music hopscotch into new realms beyond conventional boundaries resulting in fusion of forms and opening new avenues for poetic performances.

Chandan Gowda, the editor of The Way I See It: A Gauri Lankesh Reader (2017), will talk about Gauri Lankesh in his lit session at HLF 2018.
