Hyderabad: In heart-rending tragedy, a first standard student Anjali was crushed to death when the rear tyres of her school bus run over her at Vanasthalipuram here on Saturday.

According to victim’s mother Pushpa, her five-year-old daughter lost balance and fell from school bus when the driver took the vehicle forward with a jerk even before she could find a seat and sit comfortably.

As there was neither a helper nor an aayah in the bus, the door of the bus remained opened after Puspha helped her daughter get into the bus. As she was still on the top of the foot board, the bus moved, and the girl lost balance and fell on the road.

The driver unware of what has happed continued driving with the result that the rear tyres went over the girl. Puspha, who was wailing inconsolably at the hospital where the body was taken for post-mortem examination, said it was because of the negligence of the bus driver and that the management of the school in not posting a helper in the bus that the accident took place.

“Had the door been closed soon after the girl boarded the bus, she would have been alive by now,” she said. After learning about the incident, the principal of the school declared holiday for the school and fled fearing attack on him, keeping a woman servant at the premises. She said the principal told her that the school would remain closed today and that she should convey the information to children who come to the school.

“I do not know what has happened. What all I know is that the school is closed for the day,” she said.The police arrested driver of the bus Narasimha after registering case against him under Section 304 (2) of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder).
