The incident took place in Bhadradri Kothagudem district. In three separate incidents in the district bordering Chhattisgarh, the Maoists set ablaze several vehicles.

The Maoists shot dead P Jogaiah former Maoist in Veerapuram village and opened fire on another person at Suryanagar, M Ramesh in Bhadrachalam town in the same district, who escaped with bullet injuries to his hand.

Both were former Maoists and were attacked as they were suspected of being police informers.

The attackers left behind a letter stating that their action was in protest against the illegal sand mining in the area.

The police have sounded an alert in the region and launched combing operations.
