Hyderabad: Supporting the protest made by Andhra Pradesh MPs in Parliament, Nizamabad MP K Kavitha on Thursday urged the Centre to fulfill the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 as soon as possible.

The Nizamabad MP speaking on the Union budget in Lok Sabha said that whatever was promised in the Act has to be honoured. “We sincerely urge you to fulfill the promises made to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. All our Andhra brethren both from TDP and YSRCP are agitating. Their agitation while being in alliance is clearly sending a wrong message. Hence address this issue as soon as possible,” she said.

The TRS MP said that the farmers feel that they were let down by the budget presented by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley. “This is the last budget of government. Farmers were expecting some relief, but the budget had upset them. This government has been maintaining they would double the income of farmers in five years. Any government if it takes a stand should prepare a plan. There is no supporting budget and no policies,” Kavitha said.

The TRS MP, in a tongue-in-cheek comment, “appreciated” the government for its efforts in business sector. “You have brought a strategy, given relaxation, brought GST and also GST council. Why no such approach on the agriculture? You passed 31 bills relating to business sector but in case of the agriculture only two bills. Still the Pesticides bill 1961, NABARD Bill, Seed Bill, cold storage order are pending. How will the farmers income double in such a situation?”, asked Kavitha

The TRS MP said that TRS had been supportive of the government on all aspects. The government said it would give the Rs 70,000 crore worth fertilizer subsidy directly to the farmers but there was no step in this regard.

Stating that the allocation of Rs 35,000 crore during the last four years for irrigation was not sufficient, the TRS MP wanted the Centre to support the state government in irrigation sector. If Centre cannot give directly, it should support the state, she demanded. She urged the Centre to take farmer as a unit in the insurance scheme and also link MNREGA to the agriculture.
