Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Capt. N. Uttam Kumar Reddy stressed the need for joining of professionals into politics to protect democracy.

He was addressing a meeting organised to launch seven new chapters of All India Professionals Congress at Hotel Katriya on Saturday. Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy, AIPC - South Convener Dr. J. Geetha Reddy, MLA Padmavathi Reddy, TPCC Chief Spokesperson Dr. Sravan Dasoju and other senior leaders were also present on the occasion.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, in his speech, said that the democracy was in danger ever since BJP and TRS came to power at the Centre in Telangana State. He said human rights were being violated without any fear of law by those in power. People have lost freedom even to decide which food they should eat, whom to get married or which film should be watched. He said people were being lynched to death for their food habits. He said KCR Government has set a kind of record in destroying democracy in Telangana. He said professionals could not remain silent under these circumstances and they must play an active role to change the situation.

The TPCC chief said Sardar Patel had imposed a ban on communal organisations like RSS. However, now some outfits are tarnishing his image by spreading baseless reports of ideological differences between Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Patel.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said Congress president Rahul Gandhi, during in his visit to Telangana, would conduct a session with the members of Professionals Congress to seek their views. He said that the Professionals Congress would be strengthened further. He expressed confidence that the Congress party, with the support of all segments of the society, especially professionals, would come back to power in 2019 elections.

Speaking on the occasion, Jana Reddy said he himself was a professional and was into teaching before joining politics. He said that the professionals need to play their role in nation building. He said in the early days of independence, the country was run by governments headed by highly qualified professionals.

In her speech, Geetha Reddy said that the All India Professional Congress was constituted to involve professionals in the decision making process. She alleged that the Modi Government was pursuing communal politics. She said professionals could play a major role in curbing communalism. She said leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were also professionals who joined politics to serve people. He said presently, more than 400 top professionals have joined the Congress party in Telangana.
