The official along with Chief Secretary S K Joshi and Principal Secretary of Finance K Ramakrishna Rao made a study tour to the State’s flagship project intended to provide safe piped drinking water supply to every household in the State by the end of the year 2018.

Speaking to the media, Arvind Mehta said, “The conception and the implementation of Mission Bhagiratha on a massive scale in the new born State initiated by the State government is praiseworthy which needs to be replicated by all the States in the country to provide potable water for every household including schools and government offices.”

The Central official was apprised by the District Collector P Venkat Ram Reddy, GADA OSD Hanumantha Rao and the officials of Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Department of the collection of the water into the giant water sump house with 1.4 crore litres capacity and supply through the pipes to the villages of three constituencies in the district.

The irrigation and water supply departmental engineers working in other States should come to get inspired from this project which is quite commendable collaborating the Swachh Bharat and Mother and Child welfare in the State, opined the Secretary of Finance Commission which defines relations between the Centre and the State.

Nearly 90 per cent of the main work of Mission Bhagiratha, which was already studied by several States like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, had been completed in the State and the rest will be done soon to fulfil the promise of proving clean drinking water to all in the State by December 31, the officials said.Later, the team headed to visit the left bank canal works of Ranganayak Sagar at Chandlapur in Chinnakodur mandal.

Going through a photo exhibition, the official enquired about the canal works of Kaleshwaram irrigation project which will irrigate 70,000 acres covering seven villages in the area.
