The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has allocated a budget of Rs 8.19 crore for developmental and beautification works at Charminar.

The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) has allocated a budget of Rs 8.19 crore for developmental and beautification works at Charminar.

This is a part of the Union government’s Swachh Iconic Places Project where prominent historical tourist spots across the country have been identified as iconic places which have been assigned to different Central government companies in a bid to develop and work on the beautification.

NTPC was assigned the task of beautification of Hyderabad’s iconic landmark, Charminar.

The development works in regard to the campaign include -

Drinking water ATM kiosks - Rs 16 lakh

Steel garbage bins - Rs 9 lakh

Construction of public utilities, toilets - Rs 200 lakh

Battery-operated vehicles - Rs 251 lakh

Decorative and halogen lighting for arches - Rs 100 lakh

Swachh Auto Tippers for carting garbage - Rs 42.50 lakh

Mechanical sweeping and litter picking machines - Rs 200 lakh

Apart from clearing the area from traffic congestions, sound and air pollution, the project also envisages improving physical environment and tourism infrastructure facilities.

The Charminar will be restructured as a centre of the historic core so as to retain its significance and improve the economic condition besides the quality of life of the local people and providing better facilities for the visitors.

Other aspects include improving interpretation facilities, decorative architectural features with visitor amenities such as a reception centre, toilets, cloakroom, integrated security system include closed-circuit cameras monitoring and managing the activities in the area.
