Hyderabad: Chief Minister and TRS chief K Chandrashekar Rao is understood to have decided to give Rajya Sabha seats -- one each to a candidate belonging to Backward Classes, Other Castes and a Minority community.

Three Rajya Sabha seats will fall vacant in March with the retirement C M Ramesh, Rapolu Anand Bhaskar and P Goverdhan Reddy, who died. The Election Commission is likely to announce the schedule during the last week of this month. Speculation is rife as to who is lucky to get the TRS ticket.

The ruling TRS with 90 MLAs, including those who joined the party from other parties, is set to win all the three Rajya Sabha seats. According to a senior leader in the party, the party chief has decided to nominate one candidate each from the Backward Classes, Other Castes and Minority community.

The Chief Minister, during a recent meeting of Yadavas, promised to give Rajya Sabha seat to a leader of their community. This has confirmed that a candidate from the BC community will be nominated. Several names from Yadav community are doing rounds.

They include former MLA Nomula Narsimaiah, G Jaipal Yadav, Sheep Growers Federation K Rajaiah Yadav, Arikela Nageshwar Yadav and B Lingamaiah Yadav. Presently the two Rajya Sabha members of TRS are from BC community. They are K Keshav Rao and D Srinivas.

Sources also said the Chief Minister has decided to give a seat to a leader from forward caste community too. Prominent names being discussed include J Santosh, who has been recently made general secretary of the party. Santosh is the nephew of Chief Minister. There are several other names doing rounds. They include former owner of Namasthe Telangana C L Rajam and D Damodar Rao.

TRS leaders said the Chief Minister is in favour of giving the third seat to a leader from Minority community. However, there is no prominent face among the Minority community, particularly from the Muslims. Sources said the Chief Minister would hold discussions and take suggestions from the TRS ally, AIMIM.

KCR may take advice from the MIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi before taking a decision on the minority candidate, said the TRS leader. He said that if there is no prominent leader from the Minority community, the chief minister would opt for a candidate from SC community.
