National Women’s Day celebrated at Golden Threshold of UoH
On the occasion of National Women’s Day and the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu, the University of Hyderabad (UoH), in association with the Red Brigade Lucknow, collectively commemorated and honoured her on Tuesday at the Golden Threshold of UoH.
Hyderabad: On the occasion of National Women’s Day and the birth anniversary of the legendary freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu, the University of Hyderabad (UoH), in association with the Red Brigade Lucknow, collectively commemorated and honoured her on Tuesday at the Golden Threshold of UoH.
UoH Vice-Chancellor Prof. Appa Rao Podile while welcoming the gathering said that she was known as a child prodigy and a great leader. The university is indebted to her and as a tribute a school is named after her.
Usha Vishwakarma, founder of Red Brigade, gave a forceful and motivating speech on this occasion, and also demonstrated few techniques of self defence in practical circumstances. She said that we as women keep asking for the security instead, we should be capable to save ourselves from difficult situations without any ones help. Still women are facing difficulties in coming out to march along with men, she added. She emphasized on changing the mentality on the house hold level.
V Usha Rani, IAS, Director General, MANAGE (National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management) was the Chief Guest for this event. While addressing the gathering, Usha Rani highlighted how courageous Sarojini Naidu was that despite giving birth to 5 children, she decided to join the freedom movement almost a century back when times were lot harder than now.
A magnificent theatrical performance and a graceful classical dance performance by the Students of Department of Theatre Arts and Department of Dance from Sarojini Naidu School of Arts and Communication was the highlight of the event.
Later, Usha Rani and Prof. Appa Roa Podile flagged off the rally consisting of 15 girl members of the Red Brigade Lucknow group leading a campaign from the birth place of Sarojini Naidu (Golden Threshold) and will be undertaking a rally of 1500 kms to be completed in 17 days on March 2, 2018 in Lucknow (Governor’s House).
