The University of Hyderabad (UoH) in association with the Red Brigade, Lucknow will celebrate National Women’s Day on Tuesday coinciding with the birthday of Freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu. 

Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) in association with the Red Brigade, Lucknow will celebrate National Women’s Day on Tuesday coinciding with the birthday of Freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu.

A university press release on Monday said V Usha Rani, Director General, MANAGES (National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management) will be the chief guest of the event. As part of the event, the Red Brigade Lucknow which was founded in 2011 by Usha Vishwakarma with a group of 15 girls will take part in the programme. The Red Brigade is dedicated to fighting back sexual violence against women.

The organisation had earned worldwide recognition for its efforts and it has 8,500 members across the country. The organisation had so far trained over 70,000 girls/women in self-defence.

On the occasion, 15 girls of Red Brigade will be leading a campaign from the birthplace of Sarojini Naidu, the Golden Threshold located in Abids in the city. They will be undertaking a rally of 1,500 km which will be completed in 17 days on March 2, 2018, in Lucknow at the Governor’s House, where the freedom fighter died.

Marking the occasion, the painting exhibition by Fine Arts students and cultural programmes by students of Theatre Arts and Dance Departments of UoH will be organised before the rally is flagged off at the Golden Threshold.
