The Telangana Government on Friday issued orders for procurement of Red Jowar during Rabi Market season in Nizamabad, Nirmal and Jagityal districts at the price of Rs. 2300/- per quintal by opening the required number of procurement centers from February 19.

Hyderabad: The Telangana Government on Friday issued orders for procurement of Red Jowar during Rabi Market season in Nizamabad, Nirmal and Jagityal districts at the price of Rs. 2300/- per quintal by opening the required number of procurement centers from February 19.

The District Collector of Nizamabad and the District Agriculture Officers of Nirmal and Jagityal had informed the government that the Red Jowar was taken up during Rabi Market Season 2017-18 in 33 Mandals by 27,506 farmers over an area of 51,234 acres and the estimated production is 87,099 MTs. Since the prevailing market prices are very low, farmers and seed producers are agitating and doing dharnas in Armoor seeking government's intervention in procurement.

In view of the State Government today issued orders for procurement of Red Jowar at Rs. 2,300 per quintal and nominated the TSMARKFED as Nodal Agency.

The District Collectors of Nizamabad, Nirmal and Jagityal have been asked to take the required action for procurement of Red Jowar by enumerating survey number wise, farmer wise details of the Red Jowar cultivated areas by the AEOs & VROs concerned. They were also asked to arrange for the issue of tokens to the farmers duly attested by the Designated Officer and based on the token, farmers will bring their Red Jowar at the MSP procurement centers. The District Collector, Nizamabad with the help of the Commissioner of Police, Nizamabad would arrange to check the borders to avoid entry of Red Jowar from other States like Karnataka and Maharashtra.

The District Collectors have been asked to depute teams to all cold storages and other godowns where ever it is stored, collect the storage data and issue instructions not to release the stocks without permission from the Collector concerned.

The procurement will commence from February 19 and will continue for a period of 45.
