Hyderabad: Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy on Sunday said steps were being taken to strengthen the road transport sector in the State for the convenience of the public.

The Minister flagged off the Tandur- Bangalore A/c bus services on Sunday. He said the State government gave top priority for procuring Palle Velugu buses to take the TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) services nearer to the people.

He pointed out that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had earmarked Rs 1,000 crore to the TSRTC in annual budget for the purpose. The Minister further said the government decided to purchase some 1,400 buses at a cost of Rs 350 crore to ply buses to every village in the State.

He also disclosed that the TSRTC was planning to increase bus services to the neighboring States like Karnataka, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Madhya Pradesh and so on apart from the existing 850 inter-state bus services.

Mahender Reddy said bus stations with all the basic facilities would be provided all over the State at an outlay of Rs 66 crore.
