An intersex trans woman from Hyderabad has bagged a prestigious job with the Central government.

Ganga Bhavani from Anantapur was born with neither male nor female reproductive organs and went ahead to identify herself as a woman at the age of 14, defying her family.

Now, she has grabbed the job of a researcher at the National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (NIRD).

Having completed her Masters in Science (Nursing) while working as a caretaker for a family in Hyderabad, Ganga will now be documenting the life and struggles of Hijras and transgender people in Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh as part of her research activities at the NIRD.

Elaborating on her job, Ganga said that she will be travelling to districts and villages in AP and UP to provide suggestions through a book-length report to the Union Ministry of Rural Development regarding the measures to improve the life of Hijras and transgender people.

Ganga got an official confirmation on her posting on Tuesday and will be joining the Institute shortly.
