Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) Additional General Manager John Thomas said that the implementation of Right to Information Act has increased the responsibilities of government employees.

Addressing a seminar on Right to Information Act- 2005 (RTI Act) at Rail Nilayam on Wednesday, Thomas said that everyone should discharge their duties with utmost sincerity. He reminded that the time limits prescribed to provide requisite information in the Act needs to be strictly adhered.

Delivering the key note address, Dr G.B. Reddy, Professor, Department of Law, Osmania University, elaborated on the evolution of Right to Information Act, the scope and limitations of implementing the Act for achieving a transparent and democratic society. He said that right to information is essential to form an opinion by the individuals and strive for the reforms towards better society. He spoke on importance of information dissemination to eliminate corruption from public life. He also spoke on principles of Natural Justice-Rule of fair hearing, Nature and object of RTI, Development of Information acts all over the world, Exceptions and Restrictions of information disclosure, role of appellate authorities, implementation of RTI Act and contentious issues etc.

SCR Chief Personnel Officer N.V. Ramana Reddy also spoke.
