The Andhra Pradesh and Telangana bar associations in Hyderabad High Court are all set to initiate a massive agitation against the inordinate delay in filling the posts of judges.

At present, the High Court is functioning with only 30 judges even after the strength of 61 was sanctioned. Further, at least three judges will be retiring in the next one year starting from May.

The AP and Telangana HC bar associations have decided to come together to hold a general body meeting on February 27.

A notice issued to convey the lawyers’ meet by the Telangana HC Advocates Association read, “Our demands are to ensure filling of the vacancies of the judges at the High Court and also at subordinate courts. We are concerned about no appointment a regular chief justice to the Hyderabad High Court. Added to this is the pressure being brought on subordinate courts to dispose of all pre-2012 pending cases.”

The movement is expected to be headed by AP HC Advocates Association President Challa Dhanamjaya and Telangana HC Advocates Association President Jalli Kanakaiah.
