Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Karmika Samakhya (TRKS) committee on Thursday demanded the government to immediately announce minimum monthly salary Rs 18,000 for industrial and all other workers in view of the 300 per cent increase in the prices of essential commodities, cooking gas and other items.

The State committee meeting of TRKS was held in Chandanagar here on Thursday headed by N Mahesh. Addressing the meeting, TRKS Vice-President Mogulla Krishna Reddy and Secretary B Suresh said 67 lakh workers under 73 categories mentioned in the State government’s employment schedule were working in various sectors.

The leaders said the minimum wages fixed by the State government in 2012 were in force till date. Even as the prices of essential commodities were skyrocketing day by day, there has been no increase in minimum wage and in dearness allowance for the workers employed in automobile, brick manufacturing units, cement, chemical, construction sector, cotton, electronic, engineering, handloom, nursing homes, hostel, foundry, private educational institutions, non-teaching employees, cinema, paper, printing and other sectors.

The TRKS leaders also said the State Minimum Wages Advisory Board remained lifeless even as the prices of all essential commodities spiralled by 300 per cent. Stating that the workers and employees in private sector were leading miserable lives due to the price spiral.

The TRKS leaders urged Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao to respond to the pathetic condition of the workers and increase the minimum wage at Rs 18,000, amend dearness allowance and ensure security of jobs through the ensuing State budget.
