Hyderabad: Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Friday said the JAC will take up large scale protests if the government does not meet their demands of filling up vacancies in various departments. Kodandaram was speaking at the ‘post card writing agitation’ of JAC here on Friday.

Kodandaram said thousands of unemployed youth had written to Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao seeking jobs. Kodandaram read out some of the post cards during the programme. A student wrote “We want our jobs, but the government is neglecting the youth.” Similarly, another student wrote, “Immediately fill up the vacant posts or we will increase the protest programs and take up Chalo Assembly.”

One of the students wrote that the Chief Minister should fulfil his promise of filling up the vacant posts during the Telangana agitation. Kodandaram said 20,000 post cards were sent to the Chief Minister from Hyderabad alone.

He said the JAC wants the government to fulfil five demands including, declare vacancies in government institutions and do not decrease the existing vacancies, announce annual recruitment calendar, provide reservations to locals in local industries and also provide unemployment allowances to the unemployed youth. These are not big demands and the government can solve them easily, Kodandaram said. If the government fails to respond, the JAC would declare an action plan to take up large scale protests, he said.

The JAC leader also wanted that the government provide coaching to unemployed youth in wake of charging high fees by the coaching institutions. Some of the students are studying in libraries, the government should provide reading room facilities in libraries, he demanded.

Kodandaram said youth had participated in Telangana agitation and no one was ready to be a spectator. They feel employment is their right and if the government cannot provide employment, it should provide unemployment allowances.
