Hyderabad: The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) leaders launched a counter offensive move against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday. The BJP had strongly condemned Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the Rythu Samanvaya Samithi meeting in Karimnagar.

The Chief Minister had criticised the Central government’s alleged lack of support to the agriculture sector. During his speech at the Rythu Samanvaya Samithi meeting, K Chandrashekar Rao had referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Modi Gadu’ which resulted in a huge outcry by the BJP State unit. The BJP State unit president K Laxman had sought apology from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

Union Defence Minister Nirmala Sitaraman on Thursday said that she had raised the issue with State Information Technology Minister K T Rama Rao and added that the later had told that the harsh words of his father were probably the result of a slip of tongue.

Social Welfare Minister G Jagdish Reddy on Friday claimed that the Chief Minister did not target the Prime Minister individually and that the BJP leaders were making unnecessary hue and cry with trashiness. Nizamabad MP K Kavitha said the BJP leaders were making an issue out of nothing.

“Insulting the Prime Minister is nothing but insulting the country and we had no intention to insult the Prime Minister. K Chandrashekar Rao’s intention was to say ‘Modi Garu,’ but it was a small mistake and the Chief Minister never had the intention to insult the Prime Minister,” she said. For one such comment, the BJP leaders in the State had used much more defamatory words against K Chandrashekar Rao and the people are also watching these comments, she added.

Kavitha further said, “When Prime Minister Modi during his speech at Davos said that 600 crore people of India had voted for him, but the population of the country is 135 crore. Did the TRS leaders make an issue then stating Prime Minister does not even know the population of India, she asked

TRS Secretary G Ramchandra Rao said the Chief Minister had special interest on agriculture and when he saw there was no special thing in the budget, he had an outburst, but the words used were not deliberate. “The Central budget had nothing special for agriculture and he was anguished over neglecting agriculture in the Central budget, but it is not to criticise the Prime Minister individually. Instead of taking these comments as an insult, the BJP leaders should strive to get support to the farmers of the State. The Chief Minister had openly praised the Centre whenever it had supported the State,” said Ramchandra Rao.
