Hyderabad: An alleged inter-state dacoit gang broke into a gold workshop in Moosabowli locality, under Charminar police station limits, tied up the workers and looted the gold weighing around 5 kilos in broad daylight on Tuesday. The miscreants spent around one and half hour rummaging thoroughly of the workshop located in an apartment.

The gruesome incident happened in the broad daylight around 12:30 pm. The bikes borne miscreants comprising of 10 to 12 arrived at the location at the aforementioned time.

As many as 21 workers, all of them hails from West Bengal, were present shaping the gold into ornaments. The miscreants entered one by one into the workshop and then showcased the lethal weapons.

Then they confined the workers in a room tied up with ropes. The workers were threatened and made to show the gold which was assigned to them and from the lockers. They packed all the gold which transformed into ornaments and some in the form of gold biscuits.

In a bid to destroy the evidence, the dacoits took the CCTV cameras and hard disk. After the dacoits done with their job, they locked up the flat and sped away. During the robbery, the dacoits moved around as if they know the place very well, sources said.

According to sources, the owner of the workshop, Mithai Dasu, went to Mumbai on a business purpose. The victims reported the crime to police as soon as the miscreants left the crime scene. The police teams reached the spot and called for forensic experts and sniffer dog squad.

“The dacoits must have held recce for several times, the investigating authority suspected. The armed gang, who wielded knives and guns, executed the dacoity in an hour,” said K Chandra Shekar Reddy, Inspector of Police, Charminar. Speaking to media, the Deputy Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana seemed confident in stating they would solve the case in 24-hours.

“It seems that there was no resistance from the workers, which raises doubts. Nobody raised the alarm, if they did, neighbours or our patrolling parties could have been alerted. We have already taken some of the workers on the account of insider job.

It could have been the handy job present or past workers,” the DCP said. The police are scanning CCTV footage recorded in the locality. They have also formed special teams to catch the culprits.
