Warangal: The police have arrested large numbers of activists across the erstwhile Warangal, in the wake of Million March organised by TJAC in Hyderabad on Saturday.

The activists of Telangana Vidyarthi Samithi, Telangana JAC, BC JAC, Telangana Lecturers Forum, Left wing parties and student organisations were taken into custody in small groups by police in Jangaon, Mahabubabad, Warangal urban and Warangal rural districts since Friday evening.

The arrested activists remained in custody till 4 pm on Saturday after which they were released. According to the BCJAC state chairman T Sheshu, as many as 500 activists were arrested across the old Warangal district. Speaking to The Hans India here, Sheshu, who was arrested and taken to KU Campus police station, said the arrests of activists proved the TRS government’s anti-democratic attitude. The Million March was meant to highlight the plight of the unemployed youth in the State.

It was wrong to resort to arrests and suppress the voice of the youth, who were fighting for a legitimate cause. By arresting and thwarting the protests, the government could not silence the voice of dissent forever, he noted.

Meanwhile, the workers of Left parties staged protests at Mahabubabad, Jangaon and other places, condemning the arrests of TJAC chairman M Kodandaram and CPI state secretary Ch Venkat Reddy.
