Hyderabad: The ruling TRS on Sunday announced the names of the three candidates for the Rajya Sabha election. They are: party general secretary J Santosh, BC leader from Yadav community B Lingaiah Yadav from Nalgonda and another BC leader Banda Prakash from Warangal.
TRS president K Chandrashekar Rao nominated Santosh from Karimnagar, who is his close aide. Santosh has been with the TRS chief since the day of formation of TRS in 2001.
Many were happy to see him being elevated to the higher position as many MLAs and MPs greeted him. As promised, the Chief Minister allotted a seat to a leader from Yadav community.
As regards others, for one seat, the TRS chief decided in favour of Badugu Lingaiah Yadav from Nalgonda who started his political career in Telugu Desam and was an active worker of the party and held several positions.
Lingaiah Yadav use to be very close to KCR even when he was in Telugu Desam and this made the CM to go in for Lingaiah Yadav. Lingaiah Yadav had joined the ruling party in March 2015 and is presently working as TRS secretary.
The third candidate is TRS general secretary Banda Prakash from Warangal who is a BC leader. He is the president of Telangana Mudiraj Mahasabha. He has also worked as vice-chairman of Warangal Municipal Council from 1981-84 and was associated with different sports organisations.
Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao announced the names at the TRSLP meeting held at Telangana Bhavan. Later, party MLC Karne Prabhakar disclosed the names to the media-persons. The three leaders would file nomination papers on Monday in Assembly.
The TRS is sure to get all the three seats by virtue of its strength in the Assembly. The Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen has already pledged its support to the TRS candidates.
The last date for filing nominations is March 12 and the last date for withdrawal of candidates is March 15. Elections if necessary would be held on March 23.
