ASCI to draft policy guidelines for State

Hyderabad: The solid waste management rules will soon be effective in the State. The Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) was asked to draft solid waste management policy guidelines for the State in consultation with various relevant stake holders.

This was disclosed by Municipal Administration Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar, who presided over the State level advisory board meeting held at the Secretariat on Monday. The MAUD Principal Secretary asked the pollution control board officials to inspect malls, function halls, hotels and hospitals to find out what steps were taken for segregation and storage of solid waste and submit a report at the earliest. He also directed the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to obtain a list of abandoned quarries from the mining department which can be used as dumping yards.

A comprehensive survey of rag pickers would be taken up and procedures would be suggested for utilising their services in the solid waste management activities in the urban local bodies, he added. All the urban local bodies have been asked to implement the driver cum owner scheme which envisages using swachh autos for door to door collection of solid waste. Commissioner and Director of Municipal Administration T K Sreedevi, GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy and officials from the pollution control board and others attended the meeting.
