Hyderabad: In the wake of alleged irregularities in the just-completed purification of lands records, the State government has taken up a random survey in all districts to ascertain deformities, if any, in compiling of the data of land ownership collected from farmers.

The District Collectors were entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the random survey and coming out with clean records before the crop investment support scheme to be launched on April 19 in the State. It may be mentioned here that farmers lodged several complaints with local Revenue officials in many districts that the details of land ownership, survey numbers and extent of lands they possessed were wrongly mentioned in the records after the completion of land purification programme.

In many cases, officials indulged in irregularities in collusion with the local land grabbers, it was alleged. In some cases, the collected data was misinterpreted in the records. Taking serious note of it, Chief Secretary SK Joshi instructed the Revenue Department and district authorities to conduct a random survey and set the things right to curb the misuse of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s ambitious scheme of investment support under which each farmer will be given Rs 4,000 per acre in every agricultural season.

The officials were asked to forward the random survey report to government which will analyse the accuracy of the land purification. Since the investment support scheme is to be launched in April, the Chief Secretary instructed the Revenue Department to coordinate with the Agriculture Department which is the official agency to implement the scheme and also hand over all land purification details in advance.

Based on the report, the Agriculture Department will prepare cheques in the name of beneficiaries in every village. Joshi put April 15 as deadline to make available cheques in all villages for distribution to farmers. The Village Revenue Officials (VROs) have been given the responsibility of making all arrangements for cheque distribution. A special cell will be opened in mandal revenue offices to address farmers’ grievances with regard to the cheque distribution.
