​Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Friday said the works pertaining to Udaya Samudram Lift Irrigation Scheme (USLIS) in Nalgonda district were going at a brisk pace. The project is planned to provide water to Nakrekal, Munugodu, Tungathurti Assembly constituencies, he added.

The Minister was replying to a question raised by TRS member V Veeresham, who wanted to know the stage of works at Udaya Samudram Project during the Question Hour in the Assembly. The Minister said the work of pump house, tunnel, and surge pool were in advance stages and the canal system works were in progress in line with land acquisition. The total ayacut proposed to be covered is one lakh acres and the project is expected to be completed by Kharif 2019.

The Minister said the project was proposed by the Congress government in 2007 but there were no works taken up till 2014. The Congress government brought pumps, pipes and left them at project site, he alleged. Till now the government had spent Rs 125 crore and tunnel works were completed for a stretch of 10.38 km and a few hundred meters work was left, he added. The aim is to fill 40 lakes through this project, he said.

Replying to another question raised by TRS MLA Ch Ramesh, the Minister said the government proposed to take up a new scheme to feed Vemulawada Gudi Cheruvu. He said a lift scheme is proposed from fore-shore of Mid-Manair reservoir (MMR) near Sankepalli village to supplement Gudi Cheruvu of Vemulawada temple town of Vemulawada in Sircilla district. The government sanctioned Rs 171 crore for taking up this work.

The components of the works are construction of pump house to lift 20 cusecs of water with 30 meter lift, approach channel for a length of 2.50 km, pressure main for 3.55 km length from pump house to the delivery Cistern at Gudi Cheruvu. Investigation is completed and the excavation of approach channel for a length of two km is completed and excavation for the foundation of the pump house is under progress, he added.
