​Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari on Wednesday said the government was spending Rs 1 lakh on each student studying in Gurukulams. The Minister was replying to a question on the residential schools set up in the State raised by TRS member G Kishore Kumar during the Question Hour in the Assembly.

The Minister said the government was also looking to have one Gurukulam per Assembly constituency. He said the government was in the process of filling 8,434 teacher posts for the residential schools through Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC). He said that the TSPSC had issued notification, exams were conducted, and the certificates verification would be taken up in April-May. The teacher’s recruitment process would end before the starting of academic year, he said.

Srihari further said that the State government had proposed Rs 2,823 crore in the budget for the Gurukulams for new construction of buildings and salaries of the staff. He said that presently there are 503 residential schools and 2,744 teaching staff in these schools.
