A 16-year-old girl succumbed to death, two days after she was set on fire by her classmate in Amberpet. The victim, Tabassum was being harassed by her classmate for the last several months.

On March 27, Tabassum was alone at her house in Golnaka when the accused barged into her room and set her on fire.

The locals came to her rescue hearing her screams and rushed her to the hospital. However, she had suffered 70% burns, while the juvenile offender suffered 10% burns.

Speaking to the media from her hospital bed, after the attack, Tabassum stated that her classmate had asked about her marriage being fixed with another man and for his phone number. But when she refused, he beat her up and doused her with kerosene, further setting her ablaze using stove’s flame.

The victim succumbed to her burns while undergoing treatment on Friday.

Police has registered a case under section 302 (murder) of IPC.
