Warangal: Lashing out at Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that KCR had lost moral grounds to continue in the post because of injustice he meted out to Dalits and tribals during his four-year rule.

He demanded the Chief Minister to step down immediately stating that his continuation in the post would be harmful to Dalit and tribal communities. “The TRS-rule in the State began with deceiving Dalits as KCR failed to keep his promise of making a Dalit as CM of the State,” reminded Uttam, noting that for the first time in the State, Dalits and tribals in the State were feeling insecure.

Speaking to newsmen here on Wednesday, Uttam slammed BJP and TRS governments for their alleged stance against the interests of SC/STs. He strongly condemned the Centre’s failure to file a review petition in proper way on Supreme Courts’ judgment on SC/ST Act. “The centre must try to preserve status quo on SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 in order to protect the communities’ rights. NDA government’s poor handling of the issue reveals its indifferent attitude towards Dalits and tribals,” the Congress leader noted.

Ever since the Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed the post, atrocities and violence against Dalits and tribals in northern States have become rampant with BJP leaders often involving in such incidents. And majority of decisions taken by Modi and KCR were against Dalits and tribals, he felt.

The TPCC chief further ridiculed CM’s advice to PM to approach Chief Justice of Supreme Court to protect the rights of SC/STs, adding what the TRS government was doing to Dalits and tribals was no different from the actions by Modi regime.

Listing out several incidents of atrocities on Dalits such as Nerella incident and unceremonious sacking of former Deputy CM T Rajaiah from the post, sending MRPS leader M Krishna Madiga to jail for demanding SCs categorisation, the TPCC chief asserted that TRS government was anti-Dalit.

“The government, which promised three acres to all eligible landless SC/STs, not even given the land to one per cent of the population even after four years’ rule. A report from Comptroller and Auditor General had censured the government for diverting a whopping Rs 10,000 crore meant for SC/ST sub-plan to other schemes.

At Manakondur, two Madiga youth attempted suicide as they could not get the land. Instead of giving lands to tribals in the State, the government was snatching away their podu lands, Uttam alleged. Party leaders Mallu Ravi, N Rajender Reddy, K Srinivas Rao, N Srinivas, E Venkatram Reddy, V Narender Reddy, EV Srinivas Rao, Gandra Jyothi, MLA T Rammohan Reddy and others were present at the media meet.
