With the IPL fever kicking in, cricket lovers are thronging the Uppal cricket stadium. However, from the next IPL season, the cricket enthusiasts will be able to deboard at Stadium Metro station and walk directly into Uppal cricket stadium through a skywalk.
Proposed by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Corporation (HMRL), the skywalk will connect the Stadium Metro station to Uppal stadium, which is over a km from the station.
The skywalk will take a year to complete once the financial arrangements are made and people can directly walk to the stadium through skywalk without getting down from the Metro station.
Preliminary discussions are being held with Nuzevid Seeds Limited and Hyderabad Cricket Association for financial assistance. Also, since the lane connecting the main road to Uppal cricket stadium is narrow, the traffic police has suggested the GHMC expand the road as it causes traffic snarls during match days.
Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao have reported directed the GHMC officials to prepare proposals for the road widening.
Following this proposal, the HMRL has decided to construct skywalks from selected Metro rail stations to vantage points such as Secunderabad, Nampally station, Jubilee Bus stand and other important locations to save commuters not only money but also time.
