Hyderabad: The Telangana Congress Committee is in the process of evolving new strategies to win over the Seemandhra voters who are settled in Telangana. The party is in touch with leaders from the Seemandhra region in other parties as well as entrepreneurs and intellectuals.

The TPCC, which suffered a major setback during the last elections and has come to be known more as a Reddy dominated party, wants to go in for a makeover and prove that Congress cares for all sections.

According to party insiders, the TPCC is contemplating having representation from communities like Kammas and other sections. It is also examining the possibility of having a working president from Seemandhra region and extend full support to the demand of people of Andhra for Special Category Status.

This the party feels will help them in two ways. One to win over the confidence of Seemandhra voters and secondly it will also give them an opportunity to launch a diatribe against the NDA government led by Narendra Modi.

It may be mentioned here that there are as many as 24 assembly constituencies located in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation limit. It is estimated that the Seemandhra voters can tilt the balance in at least 14 constituencies. They are also a force to be reckoned with in Nizamabad, Vikarabad, Sangareddy, Khammam, Bhadrachalam and Suryapet.

Hence, the Congress party wants to field people from this region in the next general elections. It proposes to announce the names six months before the polls. TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy also confirmed this at a recent chat with media. He categorically stated that the Congress would give tickets to candidates from the Seemandhra region and that the AICC has also agreed to this proposal.

The agitation in Andhra Pradesh for the Special Category Status and support of the Congress to it has rejuvenated their hopes on mustering the support of the Seemandhra people in Telangana and particularly in Hyderabad.
