BCCI to appoint observer to tame HCA

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has informed the High Court at Hyderabad that it will appoint an observer to ensure that the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) complies with all the recommendations of Justice Lodha Committee.

The counsel for BCCI, Priyadarshan Reddy, made this submission to the Division Bench comprising of Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K Vijaya Lakshmi on Tuesday during the hearing of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition seeking action against HCA management for various financial irregularities and mismanagement.

The BCCI counsel further informed the court that the job of the observer would be to oversee the conduct of special general body meeting of the HCA and ensuring that the meeting would adopt all the by-laws prepared by Lodha Committee. He promised that the name of the observer would be conveyed to the Bench on Thursday.

The counsel further suggested to the Bench that on the lines of the Delhi High Court, which in its recent judgement directed the Committee of Administrators to add the Lodha Committee recommended by-laws to the rule book of Delhi Cricket body, it can also direct the COA here to do the same to HCA.

The Bench adjourned the case to June when it would also decide on the kind of probe to be initiated into allegations of financial irregularities in the HCA.
