Hyderabad: BJP senior leader and former minister Dr Nagam Janardhan Reddy, popular balladeer Gaddar’s son GV Surya Kiran and another BJP leader Adi Srinivas joined the Congress in the presence of party president Rahul Gandhi at Delhi on Wednesday.

Rahul Gandhi invited them into Congress by offering shawls. The programme was attended by PCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy, former MP Ponnam Prabhakar and state affairs in-charge RC Khuntia, Janardhan Reddy, who has been ill at ease in the BJP ever since he joined it, finally called it quits. A popular leader from Nagarkurnool in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district, he had a checkered history.

Basically from Telugu Desam stock, Janardhan Reddy had been on a roll in the party till it lost power in 2004. Though he remained a bitter critic of TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao while in TDP, he could not defend his continuance there as the party was dubbed as Andhra party.

He finally parted ways with TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in 2013 and formed his own party Telangana Nagara Samiti but he failed to make any impact. He later merged it with BJP but there too he had to play second fiddle to the original BJP leaders.

Speaking to the media after the trio joined the Congress, Uttam Kumar Reddy said that people of Telangana want the Congress to come to power. All sections of people have been looking towards the Congress and no one could stop the victory of Congress in the next elections.

He said that along with BJP and TRS, leaders of several other parties have been joining the Congress in Telangana. It is sure that the Congress would clinch power in the state in next elections. While Congress ensured statehood to Telangana by acknowledging the people’s movement and sacrifices of the youngsters, the state has been held prisoner in the hands of a family, he said.

Plundering, corruption, nepotism, dictatorship, autocratic rule and undemocratic activities have been ruling the roost in the state. The Congress would give importance to all those who joined the party.

He made it clear that the people would vote the Congress to power in the next elections as they would not tolerate dictatorship in the state which has been achieved through sacrifices.

Speaking on the occasion, Nagam Janardhan Reddy said that the statehood to Telangana has become a reality because of the determination of party former president Sonia Gandhi. He has been joining the party for this reason.
