Durishetty Anudeep from Metpally of Jagityal district has been declared the topper with the first rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services-2017 examination. 

Hyderabad: It’s a double dhamaka for Jagtial district with the top rank in Civils as well as the highest pass percentage in SSC exams going to the North Telangana district. Durishetty Anudeep from Metpally of Jagityal district has been declared the topper with the first rank in the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services-2017 examination.

According to results declared by the UPSC, Anudeep stood first and Anu Kumari and Sachin Gupta bagged the second and third ranks, respectively. "It is yet to sink in me that I have got the first rank" was the first reaction of Anudeep, a serving Indian Revenue Service officer.

Speaking to The Hans India, Anudeep said, "I had got Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in my second attempt and currently working in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) department. Anudeep, who had graduated in engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, had joined Google after completion of his graduation.

Taking up Civil Services as a suitable option for him, he started writing Civils while working with Google. In his second attempt, he got selected to IRS. It was in his fifth attempt that he achieved his dream of becoming an IAS topper.

"There are several other options to choose. But, becoming a civil servant is a way of life in which I can give back my best to society. This gives me the greatest satisfaction," said Anudeep, an OBC candidate, qualified the examination with Anthropology as his optional subject.

This apart, candidates from both the Telugu States scored good ranks in the Mains conducted in October-November 2017, followed by the interviews for personality tests which were held in February to April, this year.

Among those who have scored good ranks from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana include Silam Sai (rank-43) Narapu Reddy Mourya (100), G Madhuri (144), Y Akshaya Kumar (624), Vivek Johnson (195), Sai Pranith (196) and Bhargav Sekhar (816). The UPSC has recommended a total of 990 names for the appointment to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Central Service of Group A and Group B categories.

A total of 990 candidates -- 750 men and 240 women -- have been recommended by the Commission for appointment to various central government services.
