Hyderabad: With an eye on the votes of Andhra origin people who settled in Telangana, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi is likely to surprise its opponents by giving tickets to them in Hyderabad in the next elections.
TRS leaders believe that the people from Andhra areas were unhappy with the Congress and also BJP for their role in pre and post-division of Andhra Pradesh and the anger against these parties could become a blessing in disguise for the party. The party leaders said that it would not be a surprise if the natives of Andhra Pradesh are given tickets during the next elections.
The separate statehood agitation had witnessed bitterness between people of Andhra and Telangana. However, after the formation of Telangana, the situation has changed, and the settlers had also played their part in ensuring the victory of TRS in civic polls.
The success of TRS in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), which won 99 divisions in the city, proves that the settlers had gained the confidence in the governance of TRS. The party had allocated some divisions to the settlers and ten of them had won on the TRS ticket.
Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao, who led the campaign of the party in GHMC elections, had convinced the settlers in the areas like Kukatpally and Sherilingampally to vote for the TRS. During his campaign, KTR had said that he likes the hospitability of Kshatriya community.
“The Andhra natives too have understood that they should also be part of the local government since the administration is not showing any discrimination against them,” said a senior TRS leader.
TRS president and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had also reached out to them on several occasions. KCR had said that he had fought against the leaders of the Andhra Pradesh and not against the people.
He said that Andhras in Hyderabad are sons and daughters of Telangana. Recently, during the party’s plenary, the CM said that the Kshatriyas of Andhra were sons of Telangana and they should be called as Telangana Kshatriyas, an indication that the party has big plans in future.
Speaking to The Hans India, TRS MLC M Srinivas Reddy said that the GHMC elections were an indication as to whom the Andhras in Hyderabad would vote for. “If there was no support to the TRS, how could we win 99 seats? We have also said that all those who are staying here are people of Telangana,” said Srinivas Reddy.
