Hyderabad: Private post-graduate colleges affiliated to the Osmania University have adopted an unique model ‘two-in-one’ to operate. The unique method has so far benefitted the colleges in successfully running a chain of colleges.

Inspection teams visiting these colleges ahead of granting affiliations for the academic year 2018-19, from both the Osmania University (OU) and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU-H), were baffled on figuring out the notorious activity going on right under their nose.

According to sources, several colleges in Hyderabad and surrounding districts obtained permissions to run post-graduate courses like Master of Computer Applications (MCA), Master of Business Administration (MBA) and other courses from both OU and JNTU-H, for the same college campus.

For example, one college takes approval to run MCA or MBA with 240 seats from JNTU-H. The same college also takes permission to run MBA or MCA from OU for another 120 seats. And, classes for both run in the same campus.

This way, one college runs same degree courses affiliated to two different universities. But, the faculty recruited to teach the students pursuing their courses under OU and JNTU-H are the same.

Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official from the OU said, "To get approvals to their colleges from the JNTU-H, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) as well as the State government they show the same teaching staff working on the two-in-one basis."

Similarly, the principals appointed for the JNTU-H affiliated courses were also shown as the principals for the OU affiliated courses. However, off late, as the JNTU-H had been tightening screws, most of the teaching staff was shown working for the JNTU-H. And, there is no regular teaching staff for the OU affiliated courses, the sources added.

However, an inspection team from one university cannot poke its nose into the affairs of another university affiliated courses. This had been resulting in the two-in-one model adopted by some of these private colleges to flourish, the sources said.

A good number of educational societies running these colleges are affiliated with both the universities. As the employees working under the OU do not have faculty identity cards and biometric attendance like JNTU-H, it had become easy for these colleges to hoodwink the OU authorities, the sources said.
