The Holy Month of Ramzan began on Wednesday night after Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee confirmed it, following sighting of crescent in Tamil Nadu. This would be the first time in several years that Ramzan starts at the same time throughout the world.  

Hyderabad: The Holy Month of Ramzan began on Wednesday night after Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee confirmed it, following sighting of crescent in Tamil Nadu. This would be the first time in several years that Ramzan starts at the same time throughout the world.

The Central Ruiyat-e-Hilal Committee announced that the Holy Month of Ramzan has begun and the first Roza (fasting) will be observed on Thursday.

The office of the Chief Kazi to the Government of Tamil Nadu in a media statement announced the new moon of the month of Ramzan has been sighted on Wednesday at various places in Chennai. Mufti Kazi Dr Salahuddin Mohammed Ayub, the Chief Kazi (Tamil Nadu) informed that the month of Ramzan has begun.

Later during the evening, Hilal Committee president Syed Mohammed Qubul Pasha Quadri Shuttari gave the official declaration after the religious Ulema (learned men) met at Hussaini Building in Moazzam Jahi Market in Hyderabad.
