Hyderabad: The Congress has celebrated the downfall of the BJP government in Karnataka as Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa resigned before the floor test making way for the possible formation of Congress-Janata Dal (S) alliance government in that state.

The Congress workers celebrated the occasion by bursting fire crackers and distributing the sweets at Gandhi Bhavan and CLP office. Several leaders stated that the democracy has won in
Karnataka.

The Telangana Congress played a key role in the Karnataka developments by hosting the camp of the Congress and JD (S) MLAs in Hyderabad. The MLAs were received in Hyderabad and sent safely to Bengaluru on Friday.

In his statement Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N Uttam Kumar Reddy has described the developments in Karnataka on Saturday as the great victory of democracy.

"I salute the MLAs of Congress and JD (S) for saving the democracy. They did not get lured by sops offered by BJP nor did they feel intimidated. Although they got elected as MLAs only four days ago, the Congress and JD (S) legislators have proved that the people of Karnataka have made the right choice.

They had already defeated BJP in the electoral battle and by reducing Yedurappa to 'ek din ka sultan' they defeated the wrong aspirations and ambitions of PM Modi and Amit Shah to grab power at all costs," Uttam Kumar Reddy said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said that nothing could stop Rahul Gandhi from becoming Prime Minister now as the whole country has witnessed that Rahul Gandhi has the strength and conviction to defeat the designs of Amit Shah- PM Modi combine.

The developments in Karnataka will certainly help strengthening of Congress party in Telangana. This is the beginning of Congress victory in 2019 elections, he said.

Deputy floor leader of Congress in the Legislative Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said that the Congress MLAs of Karnataka behaved in a dignified manner. The Supreme Court has protected the democracy by ordering immediate floor test.

Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly K Jana Reddy said that the democracy was saved in the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha. He praised the Supreme Court for its timely and decisive role. He said that the Congress and JD (S) MLAs did not get lured to the offers of the BJP and stood for democratic values. Former MP V Hanumantha Rao said that the democracy has won in Karnataka. The Congress has supported the JD (S) to keep communal BJP from occupying power in that state.

Former minister Marri Shashidhar Reddy thanked the judiciary for its decisions on Karnataka. He said that there was need to bring changes in the Governor’s system. The Karnataka Governor should make introspection.

Former union minister Sarvey Satyanarayana said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and president of BJP Amit Shah have given a go by to the values of democracy. The Karnataka people have rejected the Modi-Shah duo. Former PCC president Ponnala Laxmaiah said that the Centre should recall the Governor of Karnataka. He wanted an inquiry into the negotiations being made by Karnataka former CM Yeddyurappa.
