KTR redressing grievance of octagenarian woman steals the show at Mana Nagaram

Hyderabad : The 85-year-old, Seshanavaratnam, who walked unsteadily to the Mananagaram venue, returned home with a smile on her face as the assurance from Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K.T. Rama Rao kindled her hopes.

KTR, who is known for his humanitarian touch and for which he has won many hearts too, himself had her brought to dais and lent a patient hearing to her problem. He immediately directed the Zonal Commissioner, Harichandana, to personally look into the issue and address it as soon as possible. Later, he instructed his crew to drop the elderly woman at her home in a vehicle.

The elderly woman, along with her family, is living at MIG 62/4 in KPHB Colony. She complained about the danger posed by the huge kitchen that a restaurant has been operating near exactly below their house.

Besides, because of old age, she could not bear the heat generated by the kitchen.

Seshanavaratnam rued that the lives of her family members were at risk due to the lurking danger. She had already approached the GHMC staff who have clarified that the eatery lacked a fire No Objection Certificate (NOC).

When Vedavathi of Devinagar in Kukatpally complained that drainage water submerged their colony due to closure of tumu kaluva that connects Nallacheruv, the minister immediately directed the GHMC officials either to acquire the land of tumu kaluva or to solve the issue amicably by talking to colony residents and the owners of the land through which tumu kaluva navigates.

Similarly, when Laxma Reddy from Phase I & II from KPHB Colony, pointed out that the saplings planted in three open spaces during Haritha Haaram program withered away, he assured that the open spaces would be converted into parks by taking up greenery.

Speaking at the third edition of Mana Nagaram programme, a public interaction session, at a function hall in Nizampet for Kukatpally zone on Friday, the Minister sought people’s participation in transforming Hyderabad into a global city.

Citing the removal of blankets and sleeping mats from storm water drain by the sanitation staff in Ameerpet recently, KTR appealed to the citizens to be responsible and sensitive towards civic issues. He called upon the citizens to use separate bins for solid and liquid waste.

KTR said that the government was planning to purchase 500 electric buses to address the pollution problem in the city. The traditional diesel buses would be phased out over a period of time. He said that the GHMC already had pressed such electric buses into service for its garbage collection.

Mana Nagaram is an interactive program where the Minister interacts with the citizens to find a solution for their long pending problems, if possible then and there.

At the same time, he recalled how the twitterati expressed their concern when they saw the sanitation staff clearing storm water drain bare hands and feet. He asked the staff to provide gloves and shoe for the sanitation staff.

The minister visited the stalls which demonstrated compost manufacturing from liquid waste, dog adoption and green initiative.

Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy, Malkajgiri MP Ch. Malla Reddy, Kukatpally MLA M Krishna Rao, GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, GHMC Deputy Mayor Baba Fasiuddin and staff of various departments attended the program.
