​Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari asked the District Education Officers (DEOs) to ensure that the textbooks and uniforms are distributed to the students by June 1, on the reopening day of the schools for the ensuing academic year.

Addressing DEOs at the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Office here on Friday, he said that till now the uniforms had been distributed to the students studying up to class VIII with Central assistance. However, from the ensuing academic year, it was decided to provide school uniforms to Class 9th and 10th students, he added. The Deputy Chief Minister directed the DEOs to ensure all minor repairs to the school builds are carried out before the reopening of the schools and ensure that the schools have proper drinking water, toilets and power supply facilities.

He said that the State government had been spending Rs 85 crore annually to provide health and hygiene kits to the girl students in the schools. The kits will be provided to about 8 lakh girl students during the ensuing academic year, he said.

The relentless efforts made by the State government have yielded positive results and the Centre had extended the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya till Class 12 from the academic year 2018-19, he said. Srihari said that the State government want to run the schools appointing regular teachers. However, in the wake of pending court cases, he asked the DEOs to appoint Vidya Volunteers (VVs) for the smooth running of the classes. Besides, the State government had also agreed to general transfers of the teachers.

Stressing on the preparation of the seniority lists of the teachers and conduct the process of transfers in a transparent manner, he said, “Officials will be made responsible for any mistakes in the preparation seniority lists and transfers of teachers.” He also asked to make preparations to celebrate the State Formation Day on June 2 in a big way in all the schools.
