Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari had advised students to verify the profile of the college including, faculty, intake, and facilities like laboratories, placements and etc., before giving their options in the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test- 2018 (TS EAMCET-2018). However, contrary to this, tens and thousands of students participating in the ongoing counselling have come under rude shock for lack of sufficient information to choose colleges and courses.

Speaking to The Hans India, Sriharsha (name changed) wanted to take admission into a two-tier engineering college in Ibrahimpatnam. However, the convener’s website provides details of the rank statement 2017-18 of different engineering colleges in the State.

He said that, “while giving web options some more details were available, but when I visited the college website, I developed second thoughts about the college. For, the college website is badly maintained without full information.” Sriharsha’s case is not a lone example, as several colleges have dedicated their website more to boost their credentials without providing credible information to back up those claims, making it difficult for the students to take an informed decision.

Besides, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Hyderabad (JNTU-H) suspended affiliation to about 48 engineering colleges, after finding that the colleges do not have the necessary infrastructure, faculty and the like to grant affiliation. Following this, about 4,500 seats were reportedly slashed. However, details of the colleges were not notified by the JNTU-H, which scared the students with rumours abuzz that the colleges had already obtained approvals from the backdoors and were participating in the counselling process.

Adding to these woes, the TS EAMCET-2018 convener’s website further cautions the students. The website reads, “The colleges displayed for option entry are subject to approval of AICTE, government and affiliating body,” making it for the students to choose options at their own risk.
