Hyderabad: Telangana government's efforts to push for top position in Information Technology riding on Information Technology Information Region (ITIR) project received a big jolt on Thursday with Centre deciding not to continue this project conceptualised by the previous UPA government.

Replying to a query, Union IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said that they revisited the project and found it to be a land-based project.

He said that the project looked to benefit some sections. The minister said that his government decided not to go ahead with it in larger interests of the country.

Further, he said that Centre had no objections if individual states go ahead with such project. It may be mentioned here that nearly 50,000 acres of land in five zones in and around Hyderabad were identified for ITIR and included in the DPR sent to Centre.

About soaring fuel prices, he said that Centre is evolving a mechanism to take care of fuel prices so that common people are not burdened irrespective of change in crude oil prices in international market. He further stated that Centre has de-regulated the process and hence there is no intervention with oil companies in fixing prices.

“In the last four years, fuel prices were comparatively less because crude oil prices were on the lower side. But due to increase of crude oil price in recent months, fuel prices are also going up. Centre is looking for a long-term solution to bring relief to people. Our aim is to bring a mechanism that takes care of fluctuating crude oil prices without burdening the general public," he said.

Speaking at a different programme later in the day, he said that government uses cess collected on fuel for development activities.

Commenting on delay in bifurcation of High Court between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, Minister said that HC judges panel submitted a report after observing different temporary sites in Amaravati for setting up AP High Court and due action would be taken.

When asked about Telangana government’s new initiative Rythu Bandhu Scheme under which cheques are being distributed to farmers he said he was not fully aware of the scheme. But obviously payments through digital mode are preferable than cheques distribution, he felt.

Replying to a query about increase of bank frauds in NDA government rule, he said that it was a legacy of previous government and they are taking steps to clean the system.
